Shadow IT isn’t all bad, but when it is bad, it can spell disaster for your entire organisation and beyond. When it’s good, it helps smooth workflow, increase productivity, and keep everyone happier. We cover the risks and benefits with some real life examples we’ve encountered, and end the episode with a checklist of easy, actionable steps for you guys.

PODCAST–UPCOMING TOPICS

Shadow IT: When users take IT into their own hands, even with the most innocent of intentions, you can wind up with calamitous results. We’ll discuss a case study involving an accidental breach at a mortgage company leaking an individual’s private information to the Internet.

Physical Security: Front doors locked, back gate open? IT security involves a lot more than firewalls and password policies.

Responsible Disclosure: What if a security researcher found a vulnerability in your system–you would want them to tell you, right? If your data is breached and contains sensitive information, a responsible disclosure policy is something you definitely want to have in place.

Backups: Data is the lifeblood of your business or organization. In this episode we’ll outline the key questions you want to ask in order to determine if you can actually count on your backups should the ★★★★ hit the fan.

IT for The People Podcast – intro episode S01E01

Greetings, everybody! This is truly a ‘Hello World’ from IT for The People, Technizen, DJ, and Una. Welcome to business and smaller organization leaders (and anyone else reading) who are involved in the IT decision making process.

In the first episode of the podcast, we talk a bit about each other, and fill you in on why we’re here.

As a small business or nonprofit leader, you’ve got plenty of responsibilities to keep you busy. The good news is, you don’t have to be an expert in all things IT and security in order to better manage your technology.

If you become familiar with some core concepts and best practices, you’ll be miles ahead of organizations that don’t invest the time to get a handle on their IT.

Which is why the podcast and this blog exist: To help you learn the essentials which will empower you with the ability to ask the right questions and make more informed decisions.
